Each year our students are given the opportunity to gain some real world experience by working with external agencies. This includes working with companies to cover black tie events, photograph working kitchens, sporting events and press launches.
This year we started off with a very exciting first work experience event. We were delighted when our students were asked to provide the official photography at the Colleges Scotland Parliamentary Reception. This annual reception is a showcase of the college sector demonstrating innovations and skills in the industry and highlighting the valuable contribution that is made by colleges to the Scottish economy and our communities.
The event, which was hosted by Liz Smith MSP, took place in the Garden Lobby at the parliament and welcomed around 250 guests. The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP, gave the keynote address.
Despite this being the first external event of the academic year, the training that the students have undergone so far set them in good stead to conduct themselves in a professional manner and manage the nerves that were undoubtedly bubbling under the surface at such an important event.
I was lucky enough to catch up with Linda McTavish CBE, a member of the board of management, who was very complimentary on the professional conduct of our students.

Well done to all the photographers on the night!
We look forward to sharing more work experience news with you soon.
