INTRODUCING USAMA

Hello! My name is Usama Díaz and I’m an HND Photography student at @nclanarkshire. In a nutshell, my photography tends to be more inclined towards creative compositing, advertising and still-life; although, I enjoy producing work in other areas, as well as challenging myself to experiment outside my comfort zone, like I am doing with the upcoming NCL ‘Life in Focus’ exhibition, for which I am designing four portraits that will capture the personality of different members of my family.

INTRODUCING NEIL

I’m a “mature” student in my final year at NCL. I got my first SLR when I was 12 and have loved taking photos ever since. When the unexpected opportunity came in my life to go to college, improve my photography, and possibly start a career doing something I love, I grabbed the chance.
I love every genre of photography, but for the Exhibition I've chosen to do portraiture. I love being creative and pushing my abilities to produce imaginative images. With the theme of “Life in Focus” I have photographed persons doing the pastimes or interests that they love, that re-focus their mind, keep their life on track, or distract from their worries and put their problems in perspective.

INTRODUCING NAOMI

Hello, my name is Naomi, and I am currently studying HND photography at NCL. To me ‘Life in Focus’ means noticing the small details in the things around us. We so often look at the bigger picture and miss the beauty of the finer details. For my exhibition images I have decided to photograph plant life, showing the intricate shapes and textures within the living plants that we would not ordinarily notice.

Hello to my fellow creative minds. I am Lisa. Wife, Mother, Student, Photographer, and all-round artistic enthusiast. I have studied with New College Lanarkshire for 3 years, starting from NQ and now glad to be nearing the completion of my HND, needless to say the journey has required a lot of hard work but it has been worth it. I am extremely grateful for this experience and the skills I have learned, most of all to be part of this community and will be continuing on with lifelong friendships. Our end of year exhibition theme will be titled “Life in Focus”. I have chosen portraiture, my theme for this project and what will link my images is the use of Fine Art and whimsical surrealism within them. My goal is for my images to be beautiful, creative and a visionary piece of art.

Hello! I am Kyle. I have been a photography studen

Hello! I am Kyle.
I have been a photography student at New college Lanarkshire since I joined
the access to photography course in 2018. Since then, my passion and love for
the art has grown exponentially as I moved through my years of study. Now
coming to the end of the HND course we are staging a virtual exhibition with
imagery based around the title ‘Life in Focus’. For my set of four images
pertaining to this theme, I have chosen to capture meaningful, emotion felt
portraits of family members. These images will involve appropriate styling and
creative lighting to ensure they are striking and captivating for the viewer of
the exhibit.
It is my hope that this set of photographs will encapsulate who my family
members are in my mind and reflect my feelings and emotions towards them
as well as represent their impact on me as a photographer.
I cant wait to share my work with the photography community and display to
my family members just how much they mean to me and inspire me.

So here goes, another student’s post, you may think. However I am so much more than just
a photography student. I am Kerri! A mother, partner and have a creative vision for my
future. I have studied Photography for many years from Access level through to HND.
For our HND Exhibition as a class we have decided on the Theme ‘Life in Focus’. For this
theme I had a really clear idea in mind straight away. As we have now been in a worldwide
pandemic for just over a year, this has resulted in being in lockdown for a huge part of the
year.
Throughout this time we have watched families and friends become very distant in day to
day life and I certainly learned a lot and appreciate my family and friend more than ever. So
for that reason my family are my main influences for my exhibition photographs. I want to
show photographs in a truly beautiful, timeless way. For this purpose I will be taking four
fine art Portraits.

Hi, my name is Kat and I am studying my HND at Ncl

Hi, my name is Kat and I am studying my HND at Nclan. I first picked up a camera in 2018, the
year before I started my HNC and I fell in love! Flowers were one of the first things I
photographed so it only seemed right for my exhibition images to go full circle and back to
where I started and do flower photography. I wanted to take everything I have learnt and
challenge myself to show my photography growth. I want to show the natural beauty within
the flowers. I am so excited to see the rest of the exhibition and see how it all comes together!

Hi, I’m Jenna McIntyre and I’m currently studying HND Photography at NCL. I fell in love with photography with taking photographs of landscapes and nature, I then started the HNC in 2017 and my passion for photography has only grown. I now enjoy all different types of photography but I mainly take landscapes and portraits.
I have chosen to do portraiture for our NCL ‘Life in Focus’ Exhibition as I would like to develop my skills further within portraiture and I am very excited about my theme.

My set of four images will be in the style of fine art portraiture. I can’t wait to share my images and see my classmates work!

Hi, I am Gemma Ledger and this is my second year studying photography at New College Lanarkshire Motherwell. Prior to doing HNC and HND Photography I studied Art and Design for 2 years within the Cumbernauld Campus. The style of photography which I really like is still life, cityscapes/landscapes and portraits, especially more alternative photoshoots. Back in 2015, I started to learn how to use a camera properly during a 2-year evening class through New College Lanarkshire to complete my HNC, and 6 years later, I can’t get enough of it because there are so many things that I’ve never seen before without the use of a camera and has change my life in so many ways already, and what is yet to come.

Now a HND Photography student, welcoming you to our 2021 Photography Exhibition. We as a class decided on a theme, “Life in Focus”, and what this means to me, in a literal sense, are the actions we take to make our lives better throughout own abilities to make things happen in life through our natural skills, professions or hobbies, and make a better future for us all, especially now more than ever, with the pandemic we’re living through for over a year. Some of my biggest influences are my love for being creative, documentary, journalism, macro, fine art, and black & white. To portray as much detail within an object as possible, will always inspire me to look at the finer things in life, as we usually never notice going through our daily lives. Hello, my name is Anna. I am the mother of a 13-year-old Emilia for whom I want to change my life and hers. My passion for photography started with my first trip to London 8 years ago. However, my adventure began with the mobile phone which opened my eyes to my new passion. Every day I dreamed about my first professional camera. The only barrier I had after moving to Scotland was my language, I tried to learn it overnight, until one day I decided to try my hand at college. I am a stubborn person, I knew that I had to be able to do it and prove to myself and others that I have to be open to people and fight difficulties.

Thanks to my courage, I have met wonderful people. The most wonderful in my life who will remain in my heart forever. It is thanks to them that I am where I am. They have always supported me and helped me with my language barrier. Thanks to them, from the very beginning, when I decided 3 years ago to start with NQ and then HND, I was walking forward with my head held high. I never gave up hope for a better tomorrow. And it is thanks to these wonderful people that I am finishing HND with them today. It cost us a lot of hard work but we can all be proud of what we have achieved.

And it is this effort that we would like to present in our exhibition entitled "Life in Focus". I chose a photojournalism for our exhibition. I would like to present in black and white colour how our lives have changed for almost 100 years. How our humanity has to deal with the difficulties of fate and what scenario is life itself writing to us.

Hey guys, my name is Amanda Herd and I’m currently in my final year of studying with new college Lanarkshire. I have been studying photography since their access class and have loved every minute of it. I have grown so much as a photographer during my time here and have also grown a lot as a person too. I am very grateful for my experience and glad to say I have made some friends for life through this course. It has been hard work but totally worth it! I look forward to what comes next.
